What can you make from frankincense?

January 6th is Epiphany, when the Wise Men are remembered.  The second of their three gifts was frankincense.  All the missing words below can be spelt out from the letters of FRANKINCENSE.

To help a little, the answers are in alphabetical order.  You may or may not need the Bible verses.

Food for thought…

To belittle is to be little.
Don’t let the littleness in others bring out the littleness in you.
Try Jesus.  If you don’t like Him, the devil will always take you back

A boy wanted to have his name up in lights.  So he changed his name to EXIT.
I got an e-mail saying, At Google Earth, we can even read maps backwards.”  I thought, that’s just spam.

Taking a chance on God’s guidance

I’ve just finished an Advent book, and been struck by people who had to wait:  Zechariah serving on the priestly rota, Simeon waiting for God’s promise.  Here’s an excerpt:

Our waiting upon God can become simply the habit of waiting, for its own sake — like waiting day on day in line at the bus-stop, but being wholly unprepared for the possibility that the bus might actually arrive.  So stunned are we when the bus turns up that we step back in disbelief, and refuse to get on board.  How do we know that the bus isn’t some figment of our imagination? How do we know that this is really ‘our’ bus, and will take us to where we want to be?  What if we can’t pay the fare?  What if it all turns out to be too costly?  Maybe it would be just so much easier, and safer, to stay in line at the bus-stop.  After all, we know where we are when we’re standing at the bus-stop.  Who knows where we might end up if we get on the bus?

When you got up this morning, you had no idea what the day would bring.  But you probably chose to take a chance on it, and not go back to bed.  God invites us to take a chance on life too, without knowing where his guidance will lead us.  “Lighted Windows” by Margaret Silf

Is God inviting you to something new?  Is it safer to stay at the bus-stop?               – Martin

Favourite Song?

Those who lead worship or preach have the privilege of choosing the songs for our services.  But is there a song which is a favourite of yours, or means a lot to you, which we don’t often sing?  If so, please jot it down on a piece of paper, with your reason for wanting to sing it, and give it to one of the worship leaders.  We will try to fit in requests as appropriate.

Material for next week:  Please send items to Martin by Tuesday morning.  martin
