We’re a lively, sometimes un-conventional Methodist Church with a mixture of ages. Officially we’re called Carisbrooke & Gunville Methodist Church since the two chapels combined back in the early nineteen eighties, but we’re generally known as Gunville.
Back in the 80’s Gunville Methodist was down to around six members but since that time has grown considerably with 40 – 60 of all ages attending each Sunday. Many people participate in worship which is informal and family friendly. The music group lead our songs and our worship is led by members of the congregation, the minister and visiting Local Preachers. We also have young peoples’ groups (Rock Solid, Hungry) and a children’s club group (see programme). We seek to grow in worship, fellowship, discipleship, service and outreach.
We’re tired of the notion that Church is boring – we believe that meeting together to worship the Creator and Saviour of the world should be the most exciting possibility we could imagine. The fact that He loves us, cares about us, and is interested in us personally is brilliant, and we’d love to share that with everyone!
The Church has a vision to be at the heart of the community and has taken steps to enable this to happen with its involvement with Gunville Community Association which encourages various community activities. The Church runs a very popular parent and toddler group which has about 30 toddlers each Tuesday morning along with their parents, grandparents, or carers.
Regular house groups for fellowship and bible study and discussion meet during the week. We have monthly prayer breakfasts with a good number attending.
We have a youth worker with us through Isle of Wight Youth for Christ. There are several groups through the week for young people (check out the calendar) together with special events that we link up with other groups too.
The chapel that we meet in is on the corner of Gunville Road and Broadwood Lane, entrance to the carpark is via Broadwood Lane. We’d love to see you at any of the events, you will find a genuine warm welcome!
