Newsletter 18th December 2022

Today

Today is the fourth Sunday in Advent and we have the third of a series based on the praise offered by various people in the Bible accounts leading up to Christmas: the Angels’ Praise (Luke 2:14).  This is a local arrangement

Warm Space

A reminder that our church hall is open on Fridays from 10.30 to 1.00: it will be warm, and tea/coffee/soup will be on the go.  People will be free to chat, play board games, read a book, or just sit.  Please tell your neighbours.  This will continue over Christmas.

The Coming Week

Saturday 24th December:  Carol Service by candlelight, 4.00 pm.

Christmas Day:  Christmas service at 10.30 am.  Please bring a present you have received.

Sunday 1st January:  We shall look at the fourth in our series of biblical praise: Simeon’s praise (Luke 2:29-32).  The preacher will be Martin Cooper.

Big Christmas Card

Instead of individual cards for church friends, please sign the card on the back wall and give a donation to ACTION FOR CHILDREN.  [Thanks to Carol for organising this.]

SHEPHERDS & ANGELS: SPOT THE DIFFERENCES

See Luke 2: 8-20.  Can you spot 10 differences between the pictures?

Look Inside!

Coventry Cathedral Welcome, continued

(This is the second half of the welcome we started a couple of weeks ago.  The whole text is on the church notice board.)

We welcome keep-fit mums, football dads, starving artists, tree-huggers, latte-sippers, vegetarians, junk-food eaters.  We welcome those who are in recovery or still addicted.  We welcome you if you’re having problems, are down in the dumps or don’t like ‘organised religion.’  (We’re not that keen on it either!)

We offer a welcome to those who think the earth is flat, work too hard, don’t work, can’t spell, or are here because granny is visiting and wanted to come to the Cathedral.

We welcome those who are inked, pierced, both or neither.  We offer a special welcome to those who could use a prayer right now, had religion shoved down their throat as kids or got lost in the city centre and wound up here by mistake.  We welcome pilgrims, tourists, seekers, doubters…and you!

With kind permission of Coventry Cathedral

Material for next week:  Please send items to Martin by Tuesday morning.  martin
