Newsletter 3rd September 2023

Today:

First in a new series on Jesus’ “I am” sayings from John’s gospel:  “I am the Bread of Life.”  This will be a local arrangement.

Next Sunday, 10th September:

“I am the Light of the world.”  Rev John Izzard will be preaching and leading us in Communion.

Praying for our streets:

This week in our 5-week cycle we are praying for Chapel Close, Gunville West, Spring Walk and Pine View Drive.  You might like to have a walk, perhaps with a friend from church.

Seven!

September means “Seventh Month”.  OK, for us it’s the ninth, but for the Romans “septem” meant seven.
So here are some of the many, many Bible references to Seven.
Write the missing words downwards in the non-grey spaces.  Quotations are from the NIV.

Cleaning:

We have been looking for a new cleaner to take over from Sam Godley.  We thought we had it all sorted, but the new person has had to withdraw.  So do you know of anyone who would be interested in the work?  It involves 2 hours a week.

Mercy and Grace

A Prayer

Another prayer from one of the books I like to dip into.  This is from the St Asaph Diocese Mothers’ Union in the 1990s (also in Welsh, but this is the English version).             Lesley

Lord of light – shine on us;
Lord of peace – dwell in us;                          Then, Lord, let us go out as your witnesses,
Lord of might – succour us;                          in obedience to your command; to share the
Lord of love – enfold us;                               Good News of your mighty love for us
Lord of wisdom – enlighten us.                     in the gift of your Son, our Saviour.

A Spiritual Check-up

Another section from WE Sangster’s booklet from 1952, retaining his 71-year-old language.
This one is entitled “In the Sanctuary” (in church).

Material for next week:  Please send items to Martin by Tuesday morning.  martin
