Praying for our streets:
This week in our 5-week cycle we are praying for The Hollows, Ash Lane (including the new houses) and Ash Close. You might like to have a walk, perhaps with a friend from church.
Cleaning:
We have been looking for a new cleaner to take over from Sam Godley. We thought we had it all sorted, but the new person has had to withdraw. So do you know of anyone who would be interested in the work? It involves 2 hours a week.
SPOT THE HARVEST DIFFERENCES Can you spot TEN differences?
Message from the Minister
This Sunday we are pleased to celebrate our Harvest Festival together and we shall be doing this in the context of a Tea Service. We hope that others who have been invited will join with us.
Taking the opportunity to say ‘thank you’ to God for the provision that he has made is a privilege. How many of us remember to say grace before our meals?
Much is being said about looking after our world. It is right that we do so and do all we can in adjusting the way we live and re-evaluating the choices that we make. It is God who created our wonderful world and we are entrusted to be good stewards. Let us be mindful then of the way that we live and the choices we make as followers of Jesus.
“All good gifts around us are sent from heaven above; then thank the Lord, O thank the Lord, for all his love.”
God’s richest blessings to you all. Rev John Izzard
Porridge! – from christianaid.org.uk (where there are other stories too)
Mandigona Kapomba lives with her husband and five children in Nyamhimvu village in Zimbabwe. She has recently been trained in agricultural diversification. “We learnt about growing different crops which are better suited to the climate here and more nutritious.”
The most life-changing part of the project has been nutrition resilience training. The group learned how to make a special type of porridge that involved adding many different ingredients. “This porridge is really good for young children who need a good start in life. If they eat this porridge, they will grow up strong and won’t be affected by many diseases. It’s also great for pregnant women.”
The porridge is made from different ingredients including finger millet, pearl millet, sorghum, meat, pumpkin leaves, butternut squash, sweet potatoes, peanut butter, and cow peas.” As a village we try to cook a batch of porridge at someone’s household as least twice a week. Then we assemble all of the children aged under 5 and pregnant women, and we share the porridge. We make it more often if the ingredients are available. We all contribute from our fields, gardens and granaries. When we were first taught how to make the porridge, we thought it was going to taste disgusting but it’s actually delicious and the children love it.”
